Let's Talk Energy!

In 2011, the Canada Science and Technology Corporation commissioned Idéeclic to produce digital kiosks (in both official languages) to travel across Canada for a three year period, informing people about energy sources. The informative and interactive kiosk, Let’s Talk Energy!, presented on a 32-inch touchscreen, showcases multimedia content centered around a map of Canada. Points of interest on the map and sections relating to different energy sources and topics allow the user to access relevant content. Information includes the types of energy found in each province, a quiz on the myths associated with energy consumption, and a dedicated Youth Zone. This initiative will educate Canadians about energy issues and improve their knowledge on the subject.

In collaboration with our partners, Visou Design and Store image, Idéeclic managed the project, advised the museum, designed the interface and interactive display, and deployed 14 kiosks throughout Canada. This kiosk exhibition was created in Flash as a standalone application to maximize the user experience, capitalize on interactivity and make the most of the touchscreen. In addition, the application is scalable, making it possible for the museum to add, edit or remove content in the future.

Finally, since the kiosks are running on an ongoing basis, functions were added to enhance the performance of the interactive, including a speaker, auto-refresh timer and a screen saver.

The Canada Science & Technology Museums Corporation received an honourable Mention in the exhibitions category for their Let’s Talk Energy exhibition from the Canadian Museums Association in 2012.
