Educational iPad App for the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Marie-Claude Larouche, an esteemed researcher in Education from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, trusted Idéeclic to accompany them in the design and development of a mobile application for iPad, aimed at classroom and in-museum interaction for school audiences.

While the app is available for the general audience at the Museum, the Museum created a school programme and kit for the education personnel to use and complement the app.

The app includes 12 interactive artworks, selected from the Quebec and Canadian Art Pavilion. Each artwork presents a floor plan to locate it, an historical map to position the subject represented in the artwork, an artist biography, an interactive “Find the error” game as well as an interactive lexicon.

The mobile app is also integrated with an advanced iBeacon localization and notification system for the 12 artworks. Indeed, when visitors come closer to one of the artwork, a personalized notification is triggered and compels them to observe and interact with the artwork. The intelligent system recognizes when a notification has been received and will only be trigged once per visit so the discovery experience is not interfered with.

This app was made to measure for the museum, but Idéeclic did use its inSitu Solutions framework to organize, integrated and export the original content into the app.
